A group on a whale watching tour was just hoping to spot a grey whale or two, but they got a whole l A group on a whale watching tour was just hoping to spot a grey whale or two, but they got a whole lot more. While on the waters near the Channel Islands, they spotted a pod of 7 orcas. The captain of the boat, Captain Frank, said the orcas were the most curious and playful he’d ever seen. Others have also spotted killer whales recently. A pod of orcas is believed to have been spotted twice, once off Maitai Bay in Northland and once in Whangapoua on the Coromandel Peninsula.
